2010 USEF Pony Jumper National Championships

USPC Qualifying Criteria: USPC may take a team of the top three or four pony/rider combinations. Pony and Children's Jumper classes held at USEF Licensed regular (not local) competitions starting on or between June 2nd 2009 and June 1st 2010. Classes held at less than 1.00m (3'3") will count as 1⁄2 of their point value. Ties will be broken by the greatest number of points earned above 1.00m (3'3"). Riders must be current members in good standing of USPC with a minimum D3 rating and declare their intent to compete for USPC by March 15, 2010. Riders must be members of USEF and ponies must be recorded with USEF at the time of declaring their intent to compete for USPC. USPC declared riders will no longer be eligible to compete for their home Zone for the 2010 National Pony Jumper Championship qualifying period.

In the case of no team sent forth, USPC may send up to two individual pony/rider combinations, based on the same qualifying criteria, to participate in the Individual Championship. These individual pony/rider combinations are not eligible for the Team Championship. In the event a qualified pony/rider combination cannot compete or in case of illness and/or injury to a rider or pony of a pony/rider combination, no substitute for either party may be made. The next qualified pony/rider combination will move in to the slot vacated.

Eligibility: Any pony/rider interested in competing for the USPC team must be a current USPC member in good standing, a member of USEF and ponies must be recorded with USEF at the time of declaring their intent to compete for USPC. The riders must declare their pony/rider combination to USPC by March 15, 2010 and these riders must have a minimum rating of 'D3'. Any rider/pony combination declaring to compete for the USPC team will be taken out of the Zone team standings and will not be allowed to switch their designation once they have declared USPC to be the team they are competing to be a part of.

Riders must be United States citizens. The zone of each pony/rider combination is determined by the rider's point state, see JP 100.4. All riders must be junior members (see GR 126.1) in good standing with the Federation. All ponies must be recorded with the Federation pursuant to GR 1102.2 and must be shown under the correct owner of record. Riders participating at the National Pony Jumper Championships must sign the USEF Code of Conduct form prior to competing in the Championships.

USEF Qualifying
Qualifying points can be accrued at any Federation Licensed regular (not local) competition. Classes that meet the specifications outlined in the Zone criteria below will be used to calculate the top four pony/rider combinations in each Zone. A Zone team is comprised of at least three pony/rider combinations but no more than four pony/rider combinations. Zones may combine to make up a team if they lack sufficient members to constitute a team from their own Zone. In the case of no team sent forth from a Zone, that Zone may send up to two individual pony/rider combinations, based on the same qualifying criteria, to participate in the Individual Championship. These individual pony/rider combinations are not eligible for the Team Championship unless they have combined with pony/rider combinations from another zone as noted above. In the event a qualified pony/rider combination cannot compete or in case of illness and/or injury to a rider or pony of a pony/rider combination, no substitute for either party can be made. The next qualified pony/rider combination will move into the slot vacated.

Standings
Each Zone's pony/rider standings can be located on the USEF web site at www.usef.org. Points are tallied from the point tabulation chart listed in GR 1131.2. Pony/rider combinations can accrue Pony Jumper points outside of their Zone. Children's Jumper points may also be accrued outside of a rider's home zone provided the class follows that Zone's Children's Jumper specifications. If a rider has two ponies in the top four positions of the standings once the standings are complete, that rider may choose which pony he or she will take and the next highest placed pony/rider combination will be placed on the team. In the event of a tie in the standings, the tie will be broken by the number of first place ribbons unless otherwise stated below.

Current USEF rules can be found on the USEF web site at www.usef.org

While the USEF Jumper Committee will oversee the criteria process, the committee is subject at all times to oversight and supervision by USEF, as the National Governing Body.

USPC Declaration: Membership on the USPC Pony Jumper team is open to any pony/rider combination that fills out a declaration form indicating that they are interested in being considered for the Pony Jumper National Championships. The declaration form will be available on the USPC Show Jumping website. No pony/rider combination will be considered for the Championship if a declaration has not been received at the USPC office by March 15, 2010. Click here for the 2010 Declaration.

In addition, the coach requests that all candidates supply USPC with a video of the pony/rider combination from a show or other training session that shows the pair actually riding at the heights for the competition. This video should be received by May 15, 2010. Videos to be addressed to Richard Lamb, c/o USPC 4041 Iron Works Pkwy., Lexington, KY 40511.

Once chosen to be a member of the team or as an alternate, you are required to notify the USPC Activity Director of any change in the status of the pony or rider that may prohibit or limit them from competing in the Pony Finals.

Team Selection Notification:  The USPC Committee will notify in writing the top four pony/riders and alternates by June 15, 2010. If for any reason a pony/rider combination is not able to compete the next available pony/rider combination will be invited to compete. If USPC is not able to field a team after inviting the specified pony/rider combinations from the qualifying shows than the top two individuals will represent USPC.

Financial Terms:  Riders are responsible for their own expenses for travel, entry fees, stabling, etc. to the Pony Jumper National Championship. However, in the past years, sponsorships and team fundraising have covered some of the team expenses. All team members are encouraged to raise money for this opportunity. For fundraising guidelines contact Marian Wahlgreen at the USPC National Office. 859-254-7669.

Required Documents:  Once a team is selected each pony/rider must fill out a USEF entry blank, a USPC Activity Release and Code of Conduct and are then subject to the rules of the Pony Jumper National Championship and USPC.
